THIS IS A SERVICE OF SHADOWS

In this gathering, we will spend time remembering the increasing sadness of Christ's suffering and death.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

Through moments of silence, meditation, music, poetry, and Scripture, we will trace the story of Christ’s passion on that momentous day. Candles will be extinguished as we move toward the darkness that overtook that moment of Christ's death. Yet, "through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory."
